What is Frizz?  Next, how do I avoid frizz?

Frizz SpecialistGuest often want to know about frizz.  So, our curl specialist Kelly Nicole will give them knowledge to overcome their struggles with curly hair.
Frizz is hair that does not align with the surrounding hairs, but stands up or curls independently, creating a fuzzy or irregular texture.
The three main causes of frizz are:
1) genetics
2) hair damage
3) humidity

Next, follow these 5 tips to avoid Frizz in your life:

  •  Avoid brushing your curls– Throw away the brush and invest in a large tooth comb. Brushing your curls will disrupt the curl pattern and cause frizz. Instead take the large tooth comb into the shower. This is a great time to detangle and remove shedding hair when the conditioner is applied to your hair.
  •  Avoid using a towel to dry your curls– Using a towel to dry your curls will cause friction and in return cause frizz.  So, simply use a 100% cotton t-shirt to gentle dry your curls. Then, use a scrunching motion to remove the moisture with your cotton t-shirt after a generous amount of styling product has been added to your hair.
  •  Avoid Heat Tools- Heated tools like blowdryers, flat irons and curling irons will cause damage because of the heat to your hair. This will cause frizz.
  • Next, Don’t forget to deep condition– Curly hair is moisture craving hair. So don’t forget to give it some love.
  • Lastly, Wash your hair less frequently- To reduce frizz wash your hair less often. Frequent washing can strip natural oils away from your hair and this may cause your hair to frizz. Fine hair only needs to be shampooed every other day and thicker hair only needs to be shampooed about once every three days.
